Queen of Sheba
The Septuagint spells the name Saba, so she is “the queen of Saba” in Kings and Chronicles, and Jesus calls her “the Queen of the South.” She hears of the name of Solomon and the name of the Lord, comes to Jerusalem with camels bearing spices, gold and precious stones, and tries him with riddles. She says the report she heard in her land was true, but not the half of it had been told her. Jesus says she will rise up in the judgment and condemn that generation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church holds that she was queen of Ethiopia. That account comes from the Kebra Nagast.
In Scripture
Kings and Chronicles
She hears of the name of Solomon and the name of the Lord, and comes to Jerusalem to try him with riddles. She says the report was true but not the half of it had been told her, blesses the Lord, and gives Solomon a hundred and twenty talents of gold. Chronicles tells it again.
The name Saba
Genesis lists the name Saba more than once in chapter 10, among the sons of Chus and later in the chapter. The Psalms and Isaiah picture Saba bringing gifts. Psalm 71 here is Psalm 72 in English Bibles.
New Testament
Jesus calls her the Queen of the South. She will rise up in the judgment and condemn that generation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon.
